Rehab centre plans to relocate

A PRIVATE medical firm in Bury St Edmunds is looking to relocate its head office in order to realise ambitious expansion plans.

RehabWorks Ltd, which provides injury management and rehabilitation services, has submitted plans to St Edmundsbury Borough Council seeking a change of use for part of New Shire Hall, in Raingate Street, Bury.

The company specialising in musculoskeletal and mental health disorders would gain 50 per cent more space by moving to the former Council Registery Office, which has been empty since 2010.

If successful, it will be the third move to larger premises in the history of the company, which started in Maynewater Lane in 1987 and moved to offices in Guildhall Street, before its current Angel Hill location.

Andy Holdcroft, CEO, said: “RehabWorks continues to go from strength to strength and this opportunity to move into another historic building has come at an opportune time.

“This move will allow us more office space for our staff whilst also allowing us the space to create a larger gym for our clients.”

The plans, submitted two weeks ago by agent Rapleys LLP, include a gym with three consulting rooms.

They also include a call centre, pod offices, a board room, an IT room, reception, toilets and in-house catering facilities.

The application states: “Accordingly, the proposals will bring what is currently a vacant office building in to use, increasing the vitality of the building and locating the head quarters of a major respected company in the borough that will increase current employment opportunities.”

It continues: “The proposal will bring back to use a vacant, under-used floor within a building that is clearly struggling to attract occupiers.”

A spokeswoman for RehabWorks said the new offices would provide enough additional space for it to employee at least 20 new staff over the coming years.

It currently has more than 100 employees.

The spokeswoman said a decision on the submitted planning application was anticipated by the middle of November, with the company hopeful it would be able to move to the new location in the New Year.

RehabWorks has 10 specialist centres throughout the country and more than 650 quality assured network clinics.
