Record-breaking exam results
Pupils from Thetford's two secondary schools were flying high on Tuesday as they celebrated record- breaking GCSE results.
Charles Burrell Humanities smashed targets with 58 per cent of students getting five A*-C grades - the highest the school has ever seen and up 23 per cent on last year.
Rosemary Musker students also delivered the best set of results in the school's history with 56 per cent of students achieving five A* to C grades, which is up nine per cent on last year.
With the new Thetford Academy signs already hanging at the two state schools, acting head teachers have both said that as the last year-groups to leave the respective schools under their separate names, the students had made sure the individual schools "go out on top".
Cathy Spillane, acting headteacher at Charles Burrell, said an increase of more than 20 per cent of those achieving A*-C grades was a "phenomenal leap" and reflected the excellent working relationships students had with the teachers.
"I'm really proud of these results as the students and staff have worked so hard. That was the last year group to go out as Charles Burrell pupils and they definitely went out on a high," she said.
Outstanding students at the school included Zanis Birkentals, who achieved 11 GCSEs all graded A* and A, and Emily Gabriel and Lauren Skinner, who both achieved a handful of A* and A grades each.
Dozens of excited students jumped for joy as they ripped open their results at Rosemary Musker.
One "chuffed" student was Lydia Morrell, who landed herself four A* and six A grades. "I'm really happy. I feel great and I'm just chuffed with these results," she said.
Liz Redpath, acting head at the school, said: "They're not necessarily an academic year but they really have supported each other throughout their studies. They've been a really strong unit and it has made us all very proud."
Grades of Thetford Grammar School students dropped by three per cent from last year, but still saw 97 per cent of students achieve five A* to C grades including English and Maths.
Results from Methwold High students decreased from last year with 48 per cent of pupils achieving five or more A*-C including English and maths and 59 per cent achieving five or more A* to C.
