Rates up for projects

A TOWN’S taxpayers face an increase in rates after the town council took on two important schemes.

Brandon residents will pay an extra £16 a year on average after the council agreed to go forward with its pursuit of Brandon Country Park.

Councillors voted to continue with its plans to take over the running of the park at a meeting on Monday, requiring a pledge of £35,000.

An intelligent street lighting project – provided by Suffolk County Council – will cost the town council £22,000.

That £57,000 increase equals a 41 per cent hike in the council’s precept for this year.

With Forest Heath District Council and Suffolk County Council freezing Council Tax, the overall increase in tax is 1.5 per cent for Brandon residents.
