Rail delays after fire

A FIRE at a recycling plant caused major disruption to morning commuter rail services.

The fire, at Great Blakenham yesterday morning, caused delays on trains from Stowmarket to Ipswich with a bus replacement service put in place.

A reduced service was run between Ipswich and London Liverpool Street and between Norwich/Cambridge and Stowmarket.

Fire crews from Needham Market, Ixworth, Stowmarket and Princes Street were called to the scene just after 5am and were still fighting the blaze at 10am.

A further crew from Ipswich East and a support pump from Woodbridge were called in the morning to relieve crews who had been working for five hours.
