Racer Mark’s hospice boost
No Caption ABCDE
NOT only did Mark Levett find an unusual way of raising money, he also made a rather unusual ‘cheque’ presentation.
Mark, of Northumberland Avenue, Bury St Edmunds, asked people to sponsor him for his first banger race at Mildenhall Stadium in July, with the money going to St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Then, instead of getting the usual giant cheque to make a presentation of his £1,100 donation, he had it painted on to a surviving piece of his Vauxhall Cavalier mark three race car – its bonnet.
Mark said: “Stock cars are something I’ve watched since I was little and I’ve got family members who do it, so when I got the chance to do it, I thought I couldn’t turn it down.”
C and N Auto Dismantlers donated the car and it was prepared free by a stock car racing customer of the builders’ merchants Kent Blaxill, where Mark works.
Other customers sponsored him, as well as family and friends.
Mark said: “I got round there okay until the car packed up and everyone came in on me.”
But it gave him the bug and he is preparing another car to race in December.
