Puppies pull in the pounds

Puppies in training helped to raise £607.83 for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre, Bury St Edmunds.

Labrador pups Annie and Para helped Alan Baker, 64, of Castle Road, Bury, and a team of volunteers run a stand selling Christmas cards and other goods for the charity.

Mr Baker said: "We have been holding a stand in the Cornhill Centre for seven or eight years now and the public have always been very generous."

Money raised will help pay for the training of guide dogs nationwide.

"Guide dogs help people who are visually impaired get some independence back" Mr Baker said.

He added: "When we have the puppies with us people

are obviously keen to make a fuss of them.

"The dogs were very well behaved as always and they loved all the attention."
