Pub identifies mystery man

A PUB has uncovered some of the secrets of its past .

The Olde Bull Inn, Barton Mills, has identified a man who signed a “time block” in March 1938.

The block was found in a wall during renovations.

The pub appealed to local people to identify the two men who signed the block, Mr B Parsons and Mr H Holmes.

Mr Parson’s son and grandaughter contacted the pub’s landlords to identify him as Bernard C Parsons who lived in Wilde Street, Beck Row, and would have been 25 in 1938.

Bernard’s son Cedric told the owners of the pub that his dad had worked in the building trade and at the time could have been working for Eastern Electricity, Hayward’s Construction or J. Sergeant Builders of Lakenheath.

Unfortunately he could not remember his dad mentioning a H Holmes so the identity of the second man remains unknown.

The discovery of the block has led the pub to delve further into their history and they have started compiling a folder of pictures and stories from its history.

Sonia Hickman said: “There’s so much history to the pub and it’s amazing to pick these little bits and complete the jigsaw.
