Villagers in recent decades have been used to having to campaign against the impending closure of their pubs and shops.

But delighted residents in Fornham St Martin now have a new shop, at the back of the pub.

Graham and Clare Hindle who took over The Woolpack two years ago, have invested £7,000 of their own money, and secured a £5,000 grant from Prince Charle’s organisation The Pub is The Hub.

“We only opened on Sunday but there has been a lot of positive feedback,” said Graham. “When we announced our plans, we had when is that shop opening?

“I don’t think it will ever make us millions. But we are confident that it is what people want.

“Our pub is their pub, our shop is their shop, it is down to them to use it or lose it.

“But what ever they want we want them to ask and we will get it for them.”

The shop sells newspapers, vegetables collected from a farm in Great Barton twice a week, and other produce.

The couple can also take orders for fresh fish which it has delivered daily, and for meat deliveries from the butchers.

The shop will be open from 8am to 6pm except on Sundays when it will open at 9am.
