Proposed overhaul of Suffolk’s care homes

Suffolk’s residential homes could benefit from a £60 million investment.

Plans drawn up by Care UK could see Suffolk’s 16 residential homes and eight well-being centres replaced by ten new, purpose built, homes.

Suffolk County Council, who will vote on the proposal on October 16, has said the new facilities would make the most of advances in design and technology to ensure Suffolk people receive the best possible care.

Under the proposal Davers Court, in Bury St Edmunds, would close in October 2013 when construction on a new care home on the site would begin, with the new home opening in November 2014.

Glastonbury Court, in Bury St Edmunds, would also be replaced with a new home built on the existing site.

The home would close in December 2014 with the new home intended to open in February 2016.

Ixworth Court care home would be closed, with Davers Court and Glastonbury Court serving the area.

Wamil Court, in Mildenhall, would be closed to be replaced by a purpose built home on the site of Great Heath Primary School, in St John’s Close.

The new home would open in April 2014, with Wamil Court closing in May 2014.

Care UK are looking at a site to replace Wade House, in Stowmarket.

It is proposed that the new care home would open in September 2014, with Wade House Closing in October 2014.
