Muntons in Stowmarket has been verified as an ethical trading company in a move which will ensure its place in the supply chain.

Carlsberg, one of its major brewing customers, invited Muntons to become part of a pilot scheme in its brewing supply chain.

It underwent a three day Suppliers Ethical Data Exchange Members Ethical Audit (SMETA) which looked at its labour standards, health and safety, environment and business practice.

The audit saw nearly a fifth of the workforce interviewed to see if they understood Muntons’ ethical standards. The company not only passed, but was highly praised as well.

Manufacturing and technical director Dr Nigel Davies said: “Passing this audit underlines Muntons continued commitment to sustainable manufacturing and strengthens our business credibility.

“Already customers in our supply chain are indicating that without a SMETA certification they may wish to delist companies as suppliers within the next three years.”
