Headteacher Steven Vincent said if moving house is one of the most stressful things in life, moving schools – in just one week – is that 20 fold.

But that is what staff at Great Heath Primary School did over the half term – while teacher Lyndsey Ramsell has also had the stress of moving house as well.

The primary school has seen pupils numbers swell from 155 to 280 after taking on two extra years following the switch from three to two tier education.

It was at capacity – and so a move to the empty College Heath Middle School site was devised.

But it was not so simple as packing up a few boxes.

“The building had been designed to cater for nine to 13-year-olds while our school is for three to 11 year olds.

“So we have had to do things like lowering the counter in the canteen, and putting in new toilets and sinks.

“We have also created our nursey out of two science labs,” said Mr Vincent.

Buildling work meant the school could not move over the summer holidays while the possibilty of an Ofsted inspection at any time, meant most of the school items could not be packed away until the day before half term.

“A lot of people say that moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do. Well moving school is pretty tough as well,” Mr Vincent said.

“It has been like moving house times 20.

“One of our teacher’s Lyndsey Ramsell also moved house, I think she must be sick of packing.”
