Poppy pledges to put town on the map

Stowmarket's new Mayor elect has said she wants to put the town back on the map.

Poppy Robinson, who was Deputy Mayor last year, will be serving her second Mayoral term for Stowmarket Town Council from May.

"There is a lot to do," she said. "We're regenerating Stowmarket, and although I can't take any credit for that I support it.

"I also think voluntary organisations in the town need to be recognised more often.

"We have won an award for Stowmarket in Bloom and that will raise our profile, but it's going to be a difficult job and that's what I'd like to do - we need something to give us a kick-start."

Mrs Robinson, 80, moved to Stowmarket in 1985 to set up a care home, which she ran until it closed in 2001.

She has also been a surgery nurse at Needham Market Hospital and an industrial nurse for the Harris Bacon Factory.
