Police warn residents to be vigilant after spate of burglaries
Police are warning residents in the Hengrave area to be vigilant against burglars after a spate of overnight crimes.
Between 6pm on Monday January 7 and 9am Tuesday January 8, offenders gained entry to four vehicles that had been left insecure whilst parked in the driveway of residential premises in Bury Road, Hengrave.
A Tom Tom satellite navigation system, an Iphone charger and a selection of hand tools were stolen from a white Ford transit van and cash was stolen from the glove box of a silver Ford Mondeo.
An insecure green Landrover Discovery was also entered and searched but nothing stolen.
Insecure vehicles and outbuildings in Mill Road, Hengrave, were also accessed by offenders between 10pm on Monday January 7 and 7.30am on Tuesday January 8.
A Dewalt builder’s radio was stolen from an outbuilding located at the rear of a residential property and two vehicles left insecure outside the property were also entered.
A Samsung mobile phone and an Alba stacker system were stolen from a black BMW and an insecure white Ford Mondeo was entered and searched but nothing was taken.
In the same road, two insecure garden sheds were also entered but nothing was taken.
Also on Mill Road, between 6pm on Sunday January 6 and 7am on Monday January 7, offenders forced entry to a double garage behind a residential property and stole a man’s black Trek Fuel Ex 8 bike and a man’s black Universal Unisport mountain bike.
Both bikes are easily identifiable. The Trek bike has bright yellow cleat pedals, mudguard and saddle bag and the Universal bike has the words ‘United Merida Freeriders’ printed close to the sprocket.
Police are linking all the above incidents ask anyone with information to call them on 101.
Police are also urging residents to ensure that all houses, outbuildings and vehicles are left locked and secured at all times.
Cash and valuable items should not be left in unattended vehicles and any suspicious activity should be reported to police immediately on 101.
Tackling burglary is a current priority for police under Operation Drawbridge, aimed at reducing the number of these crimes occurring across the county.
Officers are asking members of the public to take simple crime prevention measures to help keep their homes and property safe.
