A crackdown on criminals in Breckland saw six raids on addresses in the area and one man arrested on suspicion of theft.

Operation Octane, Norfolk Police’s on-going campaign against prolific criminals causing significant harm in the community, was in full effect last Friday.

One of the raids took place in Thetford, with six officers forcing entry to a property at around 8am.

They were backed up by a sniffer dog.

The suspect was not home, but Phil Gormley, Norfolk Police’s chief constable, said executing warrants was an effective deterrent.

“The whole point is to target offenders we that we know are causing huge amounts of crime in the community.

“It sends a very strong message that if you are breaking the law, we will come and get you.

“The proof of the pudding is the reduction in crime we have seen across the county,” he said.

One man was arrested on suspicion of theft at a separate raid at an address in Thetford and has been bailed until the beginning of April.

Licensing teams also carried out patrols of licensed premises.

Five venues were visited and various alcohol promotions were considered to be irresponsible by officers, with the venues agreeing to withdraw them.
