Police launch anti-rape campaign
SUFFOLK and Norfolk police have launched a joint campaign to raise awareness of rape and serious sexual offences - particularly among young women and men aged 17 to 24.
The ‘Time to Stop’ campaign, launched today, is supported by an online film which tells the story of three victims and how they were supported by the specialist care provided by independent Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs).
In line with national trends, reported serious sexual offences in Norfolk and Suffolk have shown year on year increases since 2009 - with rape accounting for 40 percent of all cases.
While sexual violence can affect anyone of any age, it is women aged between 17 and 24 who figures show are most at risk.
Men aged 17 to 24 are also the highest offender group.
The campaign also aims to educate prospective victims and their friends about personal safety, educate prospective offenders of the law and consequences of committing such acts, to raise awareness of services available for victims and to increase confidence people have in reporting sexual crimes.
