Police issue warning to ATM users

POLICE are urging people to be vigilant when using ATMs after two theft devices were discovered on a machine in Lakenheath.

The devices were found on a cash point in the High Street on two separate days.

The devices were grey plastic strips which cover the cash-dispensing slot. Money sticks to the strips as it is dispensed allowing the thief to come and collect it later.

The first device was discovered on the machine at about 4pm on Tuesday and the second at 8.30am yesterday.

So far only one victim, who lost a small amount of cash on Tuesday, has been reported.

Police are reminding people to check an ATM thoroughly before use, and alert their branch immediately or contact police if they find anything suspicious as well as contacting their banks immediately if they are concerned they have been a victim of any kind of fraud.

Police would like to speak to a man in connection with the incident that occurred in Lakenheath on Wednesday, he is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, around 5’ 11”, with short dark hair. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a grey collared shirt and a black zip-up jacket.

Anyone with information should contact PC Phil Smith, quoting crime number MH/12/1484 on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
