Police commissioner outlines his priorities in draft plan

Increasing the solved rates of house burglaries, serious sexual offences and drug trafficking is among the priorities of Suffolk’s new police and crime commissioner.

Laying out his vision for the next five years in a draft Police and Crime Plan for Suffolk, Tim Passmore also pledged to do ‘everything possible to maintain frontline visible services’ despite £10.6 million in cuts over the next four years.

Fulfilling a manifesto promise, he proposes to freeze the force’s council tax precept for 2013/14 - fulfilling a manifesto promise.

The former police authority, which Mr Passmore replaced, previously planned to increase the tax precept by 2.6 per cent per annum to 2015/16.

Listing his objectives, Mr Passmore said 90 per cent of emergency calls will be answered in 10 seconds and officers will get to at least 90 per cent of incidents in urban areas within 15 minutes and 20 minutes in rural areas.

They will improve partnership work and case management of sexual offences, develop action plans for robbery detection and serious assault and there will be operations to target burglary.

He plans to maintain the numbers of constables and PCSOs in neighbourhood and emergency response teams but there would be changes in the number of officers in ranks and reductions in staff numbers.
