Police boss wants tax rise
Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner has proposed a raise in the county’s precept on Council Tax of 1.965 per cent to protect frontline service.
Stephen Bett, who released a draft of his Police and Crime Plan last Friday, said the increase would equate to one pence per day for band D properties.
He said: “I made my pledge plan during the election; implicit in that is the need to ensure the budget can maintain the frontline for the longer term.
“While is it tempting to take hand-outs, these have an indeterminate lifespan and I do not propose to undermine the safety and security of Norfolk by over-reliance on temporary cash.”
The increase would see those in Band A properties pay an extra £2.56 a year and those in Band H pay an extra £7.68 a year.
