Paul Hope (front) has been manager of the Sports Pavilion at Red Lodge for one year and under him it's grown massively - lots more teams lots more sports on offer.

One year ago today Paul Hope arrived at Red Lodge Sports Pavilion, the sparse walls of which were home to three football clubs.

His first year as pavilion manager has seen the number of teams using the facilities rocket and by July he expects 22 teams to be based at the pavilion.

Paul’s vision is for it to be an inclusive community hub where anyone of any age can play sport or take part in a range of fitness classes.

He has increased the number of football pitches at the pavilion, added rugby pitches, table tennis and pool.

Paul said: “I could see the people were lovely the building was here but not being used, it was a shell. A blank canvas.”

“I saw the potential I saw how many kids were hanging around 90 per cent not being any trouble but they did not have anything to do.”

Tennis has also been a major success story at the pavilion and the club has been accepted in the Aegon County Tennis League.

Paul also found out this week that sports equipment company Head will be sponsoring him and providing professional equipment to be used at the club.

The sports pavilion was built by Crest Nicholson and handed to Red Lodge Parish Council who installed Paul as manager.

Chair of Red Lodge Parish Council, Angie Sewell, said: “Since Paul has been in he has really has turned it around he started there with very little.

“He had to start from scratch on a lot of things and he’s doing a grand job.”

Paul has also taken steps to make the pavilion a social centre and runs popular monthly quiz nights.

He said: “The centre has become a safe social environment.”
