Pavilion extension application entered
Lakenheath Playing Fields Association has submitted an application to extend the village’s sports pavilion by 72 sqm.
The extension to the Eriswell Road pavilion is aimed at meeting increased demand for leisure space in the village following the closure of the Royal British Legion Club, in August.
The proposal is for a single storey extension with predominantly glazed walls, to preserve the building’s symmetrical appearance, to be added to the south west corner of the pavilion, which sits on a 16 hectare site.
Within their application, submitted to Forest Heath District Council, Lakenheath Playing Fields Association justifies the extension with the success of the pavilion, which it describes as having far exceeded its wildest expectations, in terms of use and popularity.
The association state that the existing facilities are fully booked four out of five weekdays and have a 70 per cent booking rate at the weekend.
The extension would increase leisure space with the potential for a small bar or kitchen area to be installed.
Currently the playing fields are predominantly used by cricket and football teams.
The planning application has been supported by Lakenheath Cricket Club, Lakenheath Junior Youth Club and Lakenheath Little Fishes pre-school.
