A cancer patient hopes to give something back to those who have helped him with a fund-raising event which he wants others to get involved in.

Simon Reed from Bury St Edmunds has set up an Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) team to take part in the long distance Cambridge Boundary Run on March 3.

The 48-year-old was treated for bladder cancer at Addenbrooke’s in 2011 and for advanced urothelial cancer in 2012, for which he is still receiving treatment.

He hopes by encouraging others to join the ACT Now for Addenbrooke’s team that he will be able to raise £10,000 in support of patient care at the hospital.

He said: “Both treatments I have received have been marked with extraordinary support, dedication and commitment from a wide range of staff.

“That’s why I wanted to say thank you by raising funds to support the purchase of additional resources to make a difference for many who are treated for cancer in this centre.”

The run takes place on the outskirts of Cambridge and there is the option of running either a half or full marathon.

Registration for the ACT Now team is free. Anyone interested in joining should email Mr Reed by January 31 at actnowteamrun@gmail.com
