Parents urged to look at both free school bids
A leading councillor has urged prospective parents to ‘look carefully’ at two rival bids for a free school in Ixworth.
The competing bids for the school on the site of the soon to be axed Ixworth Middle are from a parent group working with the Seckford Foundation and the Church of England Diocesan Board with the Thurston Partnership. The decision of whether there should be a free school and which bid will be made by Education Secretary Michael Gove.
Cllr Graham Newman, cabinet member for education for Suffolk County Council, said the degree of parental support is ‘likely to be a significant factor’ in Mr Gove’s decision.
On the transport arrangements, Mr Newman said, based on current policy, transport will be provided to the free school if its is a student’s nearest school and more than three miles from their home. When a bid is decided, the council will consult parents.
