Papier mache art chosen for show
Genista Dunham is one of the new artists to the Artworks exhibition which kicks off on September 6
A WOMAN who teaches art to prisoners at Stradishall has told of her surprise at being chosen to exhibit at a fine-art exhibition.
Genista Dunham, from Bury St Edmunds, is one of more than 30 East Anglian artist who will be displaying work at the Artworks exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn in Rougham from September 8 to September 30.
She makes masks, animals and bowls from papier mache.
“I like the idea that its recycled, you can bring things to the surface and strip them away. I use suggestions from the text as a spark for the painting on the top – there is that sychronicity with the words.
“I have been selected as a member for one year. I am thrilled. I didn’t expect it. It was a bit of a shock,” said Genista. She studied at Slade School of Fine Art and then worked for an artist before swapping the ‘sychophantic world’ of London for the ‘strong’ and supportive Suffolk community of artists.
