TWO friends stepped back in time and endured two days of discomfort in aid of a Bury St Edmunds charity.

Sarah Stamp and friend Lesley Canham hiked the ancient paths of Hadrian’s Wall, completing a 28-mile trek on the Pembrokeshire Coast in two days earlier this month.

Their efforts have so far raised £1,484 for drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity Focus12, for which Mrs Stamp’s public relations agency works on a voluntary basis.

Mrs Stamp said: “I chose to take part in the trek partly to challenge myself and partly because I had convinced friends, family and colleagues to jump out of planes, cycle from London to Brighton, donate prizes and bid for items at auction and even walk across the country to raise funds for Focus12, so I figured it was about time I put my money where my mouth was and challenged myself.”

The pair, from Bury, said the real challenge was the steep hills they faced which were impossible to train for by walking in flat East Anglia. They thanked everyone for their generous support.

“Lesley ended the walk by limping the last two miles in just her socks as her blisters were so bad, and I twisted my knee as we approached the finish line, but we were both determined to finish,” said Mrs Stamp.
