Comrade Bill Bartrams Egalitarian Anti Imperialist Soviet Stout not only has the longest beer name in the World – it has also won prestigious awards.

The 6,9 per cent brew made in Rougham won gold to be named the UK’s best stout at the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Winter beer festival last week.

And it narrowly missed out on being crowned the UK’s best beer in the same awards, settling for silver instead.

“As a one man band operating out of a shed, I’m pretty proud,” said Marc Bartram, who started the Bartrams Brewery micro-brewery 14 years ago.

The CAMRA awards were the latest for Comrade Bill – it already has 12 awards to its name including Best Bottled Beer in Britain by The Society of Independent Brewers.

The brewery is also the smallest to have made the list of the top 50 bottled beers in the World, something it achieved in 2007.

In 2011 it was involved in a project to recreate the Baltic trading routes taking 15 Imperial Russian Stouts by boat to St Petersburg where it was awarded the reserve prize byt the people of Russia,

“In some ways it is a bit of a poisoned chalice because every pub and festival in the country now wants Comrade Bill.

“I’m brewing a lot more now but I have to be selective because if a landlord does not store or serve it well, that will reflect back on me as a producer,” Mark said.
