'On parade' in time for Armed Forces Day
Her mother is in the RAF, her father is in the Army and she was born on Armed Forces Day – what are the chances baby Sophie Maurins will join the Navy when she grows up?
Charlotte and Richard Maurins, of Thetford, were overjoyed when Sophie arrived at West Suffolk Hospital on Saturday – weighing 6lb 151/2 ozs – and even more so when they realised the significance of the day.
"It was a bit of a shock when we realised," said proud mum Charlotte, a former pupil at St Benedict's Upper School, in Bury, and now a medic based at RAF Honington.
"Before I went on maternity leave, I saw about all the parades that would be taking place for Armed Forces Day, but at that time I was just focused on my pregnancy.
"Now, I think it's really bizarre she was born on that day."
Sophie's grandmother Andrea Perkins said: "She couldn't have had a more appropriate day to be born.
"I am very proud of what my daughter and son-in-law do for a living."
But for now, rather than planning Sophie's future, Charlotte, 29, and husband Richard, 28, who is a Royal Engineer based at Waterbeach, in Cambridgeshire, are enjoying spending some time with Sophie and her big brother, Joseph.
