Oil theft prompts warning

THIEVES have made off with 500 litres of heating oil worth around £3,000.

The theft, from an address in North Road, Lakenheath, on February 12, has prompted police to urge residents to take measures to protect their property.

PCSO Keith Chittock, pictured right, said: “It can really pay off in the long-term to invest in security lights, locks and alarms, which can deter a would-be criminal.

“Alarms can be very useful, there are many types now on the market and some of these can be linked to your house alarm.

“Furthermore, keep the tank itself as secure as possible, while delivery drivers may need access, try to leave your tank unblocked for as short a time as possible.”

Anyone with information on the theft can call police on 101.
