Official opening of bottled green house
Deputy Mayor Cllr Christopher Spicer visited Sexton's Manor Primary to officially open their plastic bottle green house
HOW many plastic bottles does it take to build a school greenhouse?
Cllr Christopher Spicer, deputy mayor of St Edmundsbury, discovered the answer when he opened the innovative feature at Sexton’s Manor Primary.
The greenhouse was built over two months using 1,400 bottles, which were collected by parents, businesses and Andy Hobbs, waste and recycling support officer for St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
It forms part of the school’s outdoor learning environment with bird-watching dens, scarecrows, chickens and bike shed. The site was created following £4,195 in Big Lottery Funding.
During his visit, Cllr Spicer enjoyed a rendition of Land of Hope and Glory from pupils at his request, bought some sweet peas from the greenhouse and took home a recently laid egg.
