New Year brings a new headteacher

The New Year has brought a new headteacher to Sebert Wood Community Primary School.

Peter Dewhurst, a former headteacher of Hardwick Primary School and Rattlesden Primary School, came to Moreton Hall after his most recent headship at the British International School in Shanghai, China.

Mr Dewhurst said the primary school in Shanghai was particularly large, with 800 pupils from a number of different nationalities and diverse cultural backgrounds.

Of his new role, he said: “This is back to what I know so I have slotted in well.

“It is a great school - it’s got a great team of staff, very supportive parents and lovely children so it’s good to be in such a stimulating learning environment. I’m excited about the future.”

The father-of-three who, like his predecessor, plays the guitar, is also keen to incorporate his enjoyment of art and IT into his work at the school.

This week, he could be seen playing in the snow with his pupils.

Former headteacher Richard Rice retired at the end of last year after 22 years in the role.

Among his leaving gifts was a telescope presented from Suffolk County Council as a long service award.
