The co-owner of an online music retailer in Bury St Edmunds has told how he plans to start marketing directly to schools in the coming months.

Simon Pollard, former managing director of Music Sales retail arm, Musicroom, started Two Circles Music with colleague Dave Tomkinson, last year.

“Our plan is to develop out to the school market directly in the coming months,” said Simon.

The web based business already features student packs which allow pupils to purchase everything they need for one particular music grade in one click rather than trawling through pages of products.

“For the most part purchasing these products is quite an involved process, we wanted to make it easy as possible for them to get what they need,” said Dave.

“The packs have been a great success,” said Simon.

“We have just added the alternative pieces for each grade soon so you can literally select everything you need tailored to your specific needs and then buy with one click.

“We don’t believe anybody else offers such as an easy purchase process.

“We’re now adding all the other instruments and will shortly be adding the LCM and Trinity exam syllabi so you can purchase everything you need in one place”.

The duo have taken on two staff and have secured a number of high profile brand names.

Last month it met with the Associated Board for the Royal School of Music to talk about a number of future projects.

“We discussed our current marketing efforts and what more we can do to support musicians both as students and teachers,” said Simon.

“I am really pleased with the support we ‘re being offered and am excited by the possibilities.

“We have numerous suppliers who are offering help and we’re working with teachers and students to ensure our offer matches their requirements,” he said.

The online business of Two Circles Music is complemented by Simon’s acquisition one of the largest and most highly regarded music stores in the country – Millers Music shop in Cambridge which he bought last year.

“It gives us so many options and the stability of a physical store is great for our online business,” said. Simon.

“Modern retail is about more than a great store, many customers will check you out online before they ever visit a store and so your sales process starts there.
