Children and teenagers on the Rainbow Ward at West Suffolk Hospital have been presented with Christmas presents this morning (18) following a pamper evening.
Mum of three Wendy Brinkworth and her friends from Bury St Edmunds ran a Christmas shopping and pamper evening in November.
This morning she presented the ward with a cheque for £400 as well as presents for the youngsters on the ward.
She ran a similiar event last year which raised more than £1,200 for St Nicholas Hospice Care and the Priscilla Bacon Lodge.
“After speaking to family and friends I quickly realised that everyone I spoke to had either had a child or knew someone that had, that had been admitted to the Rainbow Ward.

“Two of my friends having had a child with meningitis, who both spoke highly of the unit, and what an amazing place it was.”
The event had more than 20 stalls, ranging from clothes and handbags to handmade gifts. Neil Baxter had his legs waxed raising £75, while money was also raised from raffles and refreshments.
In total the night raised £750.
The ward then gave Wendy a list of items it wanted to make the children more comfortable during their stay.

“We were lucky enough to be donated a playstation 2 with over 20 games, and Andrew Docherty, the manager of Tesco Bury St Edmunds, personally donated £50 worth of toys for the appeal as well as raffle prizes,” Wendy said.
She bought more than 30 gifts, including a new hi-fi unit and docking station which was presented to the Rainbow Ward alongside the cheque for £400.
Wendy wanted to thank volunteers: Susan Beaumont, Julie Hynds, Justin Price, Hayley Manning, Laura Morley, Lisa Campell, Sarah Hunt, Kelly Mingay, Charlie Rudddock and Steve Old.
“I would also like to thank Tesco, Spar St.Olaves road and Ivy Goodman from the Newbury Community Centre for their generosity,” Wendy said.
