THE mother of Jack Cocksedge, an 18-year-old motorcyclist who died in Stowmarket last week, has paid tribute to her son.

Jill Cocksedge, 48, of Bridge Street, Stowmarket, thanked her son’s friends for all they have done in supporting the family.

She also said she had been touched by the messages of condolence she had seen on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

She said: “Jack was Jack, we wouldn’t have had him any other way.

“He was loved by so many people for being Jack.

“He was a lovely lad and I am finding out more about him every day.

“It is just so nice to read the lovely comments about him.

“His friends have been very kind and have done all sorts for me.

“They have helped arrange the music for his funeral and have been around to support me.

“They have just been so lovely.”

Former Stowmarket High School student Jack died on July 11 when his KTM 640cc motorbike collided with a street sign.

Police were called to the scene just after 5.30pm but despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into Jack’s death was opened and adjourned at the Coroner’s Office at Bury St Edmunds Police Station on Monday.

Abbie Johnson wrote on Twitter : “life is just so short and unfair on so many occasions but you have to live every day like it is your last. RIP Jack Cocksedge.”

Tomorrow, Jack’s friends are getting together at Tescos car park in Stowmarket at 8pm and driving in convoy to the Orwell Truck Stop off the A14 at Nacton, Ipswich, in honour of the teenager.

A collection will be made with proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Jack’s funeral is taking place at the West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, at 2.15pm today.
