Mother is banned after admitting drink-driving
A MOTHER of three has admitted drink-driving after she tried to move her car to avoid a parking fine while over the legal limit.
Helena Cutts, 40, of Meeting Green, Wickhambrook, told police she had merely been moving her car from its parking space on Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, when she was pulled over on August 10.
Cutts pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess alcohol at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court last Friday.
Tim Ridyard, in mitigation, said that Cutts had visited Bury during the day and had bumped into some friends, who invited her for a drink.
She returned to her car at 7.15pm and, fearing a parking ticket, withdrew £100 for a taxi and attempted to move her car to a space on Westgate Street.
However, officers spotted her driving erratically and striking the kerb before pulling her over, according to prosecutor, Sarah-Jane Atkins.
A breath test showed a reading of 89 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – more than the legal limit of 35.
Mr Ridyard described Cutts as a ‘net-giver to society’, stating that she was heavily involved in charity work and had spearheaded several clean-up initiatives after last year’s London riots.
He added that she had three children under the age of seven, including twins.
He said: “She made a misjudgment and I do not think there is the remotest likelihood that you will see her here again.”
Magistrate Lorraine Line said the offence was on the cusp of a community order.
Cutts was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £250, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.
