Moreton Hall pupils take on adult bridge players in county competition
TWO pupils from Moreton Hall Prep School in Bury St Edmunds have taken part in a bridge competition which attracted aspiring adult players from all over Suffolk and north-east Essex.
Scheherazade Loft, 12, and Edward Farr,13, competed against 33 pairs of grown ups in the Suffolk Novice Pairs championship, finishing ninth overall and fourth in their section.
They have been playing bridge for just over a year and are believed to be the youngest competitors to have ever taken part in the prestigious event, which is staged annually at the Risbygate Sports Club, in Bury.
Headteacher Simon Head said: “Now I know why they challenged me to a game of poker.”
Richard Evans, who teaches bridge at the prep school, said: “Scheherazade and Edward only started learning bridge in the autumn of 2011. To perform so well in a county event, which attracted a record field and lasted five hours, required concentration, stamina and skill. Theirs was a remarkable performance, given their age, and both have the potential to become very good players.”
