Match cancelled as burglars hit club three times

Bury Town Football Club has been hit by burglars three times in four days who stole more than £1,000.
Saturday’s match between Team Bury and Saffron Waldon Town was cancelled at short notice while scenes of crime officers investigated the scene at Ram Meadow, Bury St Edmunds.
Club director Chris Ward said, as his father chairman Russell Ward dealt with the third raid: “All the staff are volunters and to have someone come in, cause damage and take the profits from the weekend is annoying. Our people work to put money back into the club.”
They believe the first raid was on Friday at about 10am when the thieves stole the contents of two fruit machines.
Mr Ward said: “We believe the second raid was between 1am and 9am on Saturday. They took the contents of another fruit machine and the club safe.
“At a rough guess they have taken between £1,000 and £1,500.”
On Tuesday the Wards believe someone tried to get into the clubhouse again, though security has been stepped up.
Police ask anyone who saw anything at the club to call PC Anthony Orr at Bury St Edmunds Police on 101 quoting BU/12/2141 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
