Massive lightning strike at Stowmarket home
The scene of the massive lightning strike on Lavenham Way, Stowmarket
FIRECREWS were called to a massive lightning strike at a house in Lavenham Way, Stowmarket last night which damaged the property and blew all the electrics.
This morning the scene was sealed off and council investigators were examining the extent of the damage.
Stowmarket Watch Commander Russell Punchard describe the bolt as one of the loudest things he had ever heard.
“You cannot describe the sound it made. You can only imagine it must have been what it is like when a bomb goes off.”
“I live just 200 metres round the corner and I was sat watching the TV. There was a tremendous flash and a huge bang. It was like nothing I’ve ever heard before in my life. About 20 minutes later we were called out to reports of a lightning strike and explosion. You can see the devastation it has caused.
“Initially it caused some damage to the chimney stack. The lightning went through the wiring and has blown all the fuse boxes.”
Mr Punchard said the householder was unhurt but badly shaken.
