Market trader opens her first shop in Bury St Edmunds

After 10 years as a market trader in Bury St Edmunds, Ruth Brighton says the time ‘felt right’ to open her first shop.
Fairy Cahoots opened in St Johns Street on January 5, specialising in candles, oils, incense, art and crafts, and a variety of ‘fairy, fantasy, nature and alternative greeting cards.’
“I’ve been on the market for 10 years so the business is already relatively well established.
“I always wanted to have my own shop but in this current climate it is not the easiest thing to do.
“Then this opportunity came up. Actually its isperfect for me.”
Ruth said the move will allow her to expand her gift range to include some of the more delicate fragile items she was not able to sell on the market.
“I’ve also got a local artist who is bringing in artwork specialising in the green men and pagan alternative interests,” said Ruth, 36.
She also hopes to encourage other local artists to sell through the shop.
Part of the appeal of the move she said was the community feel of the independent shops in St Johns Street.
Ruth said she has been made to feel welcome but as her decision to move into the shop was ‘last minute’ she did not get a chance to tell all her loyal customers.
The shop will be open from 10am to 5pm from Tuesdays to Saturdays.
