Mann admits using stolen goods in fraud offences during drug relapse

An addict used stolen goods to commit fraud, Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday.

Godfried Duah, prosecuting, said the victim had become suspicious after receiving a letter about a £1,000 loan one week after items were stolen from his car.

A police investigation led to James Robert Mann, 38, of Ipswich Street, Bury St Edmunds, who admitted applying for the loan using items he knew to be stolen, which included bank and military ID cards, a wallet and personal papers.

He also admitted attempting to withdraw cash from an ATM, all between August 31 and September 13, 2012.

In mitigation, Claire Lockwood said Mann’s benefits had been stopped and he had had a drugs relapse.

Having pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods and two counts of fraud by false representation, Mann received a 12 month community order.
