Man tells court of attack while in a wheelchair
A Stowmarket man has told a court that he was attacked by two intruders as he sat helpless in a wheelchair .
Giving evidence at Ipswich Crown Court, Nicholas Kemp said he had been unable to defend himself as he was struck about the head because of multiple injuries sustained in an accident a month earlier.
Michael Jay, 34, of Kent Road, Stowmarket, and Peter Shefford, 34, of Bloomfield Road, Haverhill, pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
Mr Kemp told the jury that on June 20 last year he and a friend had been at his home in Eastward Place, Stowmarket when he was confronted by Jay and Shefford.
He alleged that Jay had begun the attack with Shefford then joining in while both repeatedly shouted at him. The two attackers left about half an hour, only to return a short while later and and resume the attack.
Mr Kemp, who in an accident had suffered nine fractures to his shin, a broken ankle and a broken arm, said he was confined to a wheelchair having spent a month in hospital.
He claimed Jay and Shefford dragged him to the floor with Jay sitting on his chest and Shefford twisting his injured leg.
