Man treated for cardiac arrest on A14

A 67-year-old man was resuscitated at the roadside after suffering a cardiac arrest while being driven down the A14.

The passenger was being taken home to Ipswich by his brother yesterday afternoon when his heart stopped.

Police officers, who were dealing with an earlier road traffic collision on the A14 near Stowmarket, immediately gave life saving treatment to the man.

Emergency medical charity Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were called to attend at 3.50pm - a rapid response paramedic car, the SARS doctor and a paramedic ambulance arrived on scene and took over resuscitation from the police.

The patient was rushed by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital accompanied by the SARS doctor.

On arrival at the hospital, the man was in a serious but stable condition.
