Man knocked out three of victim’s teeth in pub
A 42-YEAR-OLD knocked out three of another man’s teeth after an assault in a pub, a court heard.
Alex Jan Manning, of Deck Walk, Bury St Edmunds, was in the Woolpack, in Fornham St Martin, when he punched and headbutted Max Basford in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
He appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for sentencing, having been found guilty at a trial on June 13.
The attack took place after Manning accused Mr Basford of having been high on cannabis at around 12.30am.
Rosalind Cappleman, prosecuting, said that when Mr Basford denied the accusation, Manning launched himself across the bar, punching and headbutting his victim, before being dragged away by other customers.
Lyndon Davies, in mitigation, said that Manning had been drinking in the pub with his wife and daughter since 7.30pm.
District Judge Celia Dawson gave him a one-year conditional discharge, ordered him to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work, to pay compensation of £350 and costs of £650.
