Man guilty of assaulting his partner twice
A MAN who threatened to kill his girlfriend after she discovered him in bed with her flatmate has been told to do 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 compensation to the victim.
Sergejus Juodka, 42, of Canon Way, Thetford, appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced for two counts of assault by beating on August 20.
Juodka had pleaded guilty to both charges at an earlier hearing.
Nikki Miller, prosecuting, told the court that the first assault had taken place on July 2 this year when Juodka’s girlfriend had returned home to find him drunk.
She locked herself in the bathroom of their home as she was feeling scared and after she refused to come out Juodka kicked open the door and punched her causing a nose bleed and subsequently two black eyes.
The court heard that the second assault took place five days later on July 7 after his girlfriend found Juodka in bed with her flatmate.
Juodka followed her as she returned to her room with the intention of packing up his possessions and threatened to kill her before kicking her three times, said Mrs Miller
When interviewed by police, Juodka had said that the first assault had happened after his girlfriend had thrown water at him.
During the same interview Mrs Miller told the court that when speaking about the second offence Juodka said he had been in bed with another woman but only because he wanted to show the victim what kind of woman her flatmate was as he did not want to share his flat with her.
At the time of the second offence the court heard that Juodka had described himself as nine out of 10 on a scale of drunkenness.
Speaking in court through an interpreter Juodka said: “I just want to say that I have had enough time think of what I have done and I can promise one thing this will never happen again.”
Sentencing, magistrate Meg Clibbon said: “We have been concerned about the violent nature of these offences, your disproportionate reaction to a minor provocation, your underlying attitude towards woman and your lack of awareness of your own culpability.”
Juodka was given a 12 month community order with supervision, told to complete 150 hours unpaid work, pay £300 in compensation and £85 in costs.
