Man denies lying about ill health to get money
A BURY St Edmunds man is accused of pretending to have terminal cancer in order to get someone he knew to hand over thousands of pounds.
Shaun Malarkey, of St James Lane, Bury, pleaded not guilty to three charges of fraud by false representation when he appeared at Bury Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The 44-year-old has denied falsely claiming to have terminal cancer and being due an inheritance of £147,752 to make a gain of £5,260, between October 1, 2011, and July 1, 2012.
He also denied making false claims on his home contents insurance to receive funds for replacement goods from Aviva Insurance, on June 13 this year,
On April 23 this year, he is accused of completing a form with someone else’s signature and personal details, falsely representing that they agreed to go as guarantor on a loan of £500,
He was released on conditional bail, to return to the same court on August 28.
He has been ordered to report to the police station in Bury three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 2-4pm, and to reside and sleep at the address he has given to the court.
His bail conditions also state that he is not to contact, directly or indirectly, two named people, or to go to Somerton, King Edwards VI School, in Bury, or anywhere connected with the Vineyard Church, in Bury.
Malarkey’s trial will take place at crown court.
