Man brought crowbar to fight
A 21-year-old man used a crowbar to scare a group of people outside a Bury St Edmunds bar.
Joe Boreham, of Landseer Court, Haverhill, will be sentenced at crown court after pleading guilty to five offences at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The offences were two counts of assault, one of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, one of possessing a blade in a public place and one of using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause fear.
Colette Griffiths, prosecuting, told the court Boreham arrived at Benson Blakes bar on January 27, and shouted abuse at his girlfriend.
He went on to assault two males and after the group were ejected from the bar pulled out a Stanley knife before fetching a crowbar from a nearby van.
The court heard that during a police interview Boreham said his intent in returning with the crowbar was to show the victims he was not scared and to scare them.
Boreham told the court he regretted what he had done.
He has been bailed on the conditions that he does not contact those involved and does not enter Benson Blakes, in Bury St Edmunds.
