Make a will and help charities

SOLICITORS will be helping charities and people who want to make a will next month.

In November, some lawyers will waive their fee for drawing up a will, but the client will be asked to make a similar donation to Will Aid, which supports nine UK charities.

The suggested donations range from £40 for a change to an existing will to £135 for new ‘mirror wills’ for a couple. The charities supported include Age UK, Save the Children and Sightsavers.

Will Aid says that unless you make a will, the Government decides what will happen to your property and money through the laws of intestacy, so the people you want to benefit may not. It also suggests reviewing your will every five years and registering it with the National Will Register, so people know where to find it.

The West Suffolk solicitors taking part are Burnett Barker, in Bury St Edmunds, Atkins Thomson, in Nowton, McCarthy Stewart Booty and Haywards, in Stowmarket, and Metcalfe Copeman and Pettefar, in Thetford. To find a solicitor call 0300 0300 013 or use the postcode search at www.willaid.org.uk
