Lighting up for Christmas

Bury St Edmunds will get lit up for Christmas on Thursday 
November 15.

The event kicks off with real penguins arriving at 2pm and entertainment on stage beginning at 3.30pm with performances by schools and colleges.

Santa’s reindeer arrive at 4pm and this year are being joined by some donkeys. Santa will not have to pay to park is sleigh because parking is free across town from 4pm.

He has to be on stage near Moyse’s Hall for 7pm to help Sue Kemp from McDonald’s, who won the Bid4Bury Customer Care Award, turn on the lights.

Through the afternoon and evening there are charity stalls, street entertainers, face painters, a funfair and a magician.

Radio West Suffolk FM will be transmitting from the Buttermarket all afternoon and after the switch-on County Upper School’s Dixie band will be playing.

To prepare for and hold the event Buttermarket, Cornhill, Abbeygate Street and the Traverse will be closed from 6pm on November 14 to 10pm on November 15.

The annual Bury Christmas Fayre is on from the 23rd to 25th and late night shopping is December 6, 13 and 20.
