Leisure centre ‘too expensive’ say group

The boss of a leisure centre has told customers to look harder for value after a focus group revealed residents felt they were being priced out of keeping fit.

The group, held just before Christmas, said Brandon Leisure Centre’s prices on annual and monthly memberships were ‘excellent value’ but that individual classes or sessions were too expensive.

Andy Killin, facilities manager at Anglia Community Leisure, who run the leisure centre, said its prices compared fairly to its competition but that customers’ concerns were appreciated.

“Everyone agrees that our monthly or annual membership deals are great value but people may not know that we also give discounts on Pay and Play prices depending on someone’s age, if they are a student or if they are receiving benefits.

“We are genuinely a community facility and we want to welcome everyone at a price they can afford so they really must ask our staff what discounts are available.”

Suggestions from the group included the introduction of a weekend membership aimed at parents.

There were also requests for more craft, antique and wedding fairs, to bring the community to the centre.

Mr Killin said: “The feedback from this exercise has been really valuable and we will be looking at all comments thoroughly.

“We realise now that we need to make more people aware of our discounts and concessions and we certainly need to shout about our weddings.”
