Leader against park charge
Farewell to Geoff Rivers St Eds chief executive. FL; Alex Wilson, John Griffith, Sandra Pell, Geoff Rivers and MP Matthew Hancock.
THE LEADER of St Edmundsbury Borough Council has told how he disagrees with parking charges at Nowton Park and says they are to be reviewed.
Cllr John Griffiths was responding to a member of the public at the question time event held at The Apex on Thursday.
“Where is the fairnes of putting in the Nowton Park car parking charges?” asked the woman.
“It restricts people with children who just cannot afford to go every day.
“I’m disgusted to be honest.”
Clr Griffiths said: “I don’t personally disagree.”
“I totally sympathise. We are looking at that as part of the review.”
But he said the park had undergone a series of improvements and the car parking income would go toward the running costs at the park.
Nowton Park attracts around 350,000 visitors a year.
