Landlord on assault charge

THE LANDLORD of a thatched, village pub has denied allegations that he elbowed a police officer in the nose before swearing at him.

Steve John Mcqueen, 39, landlord of the Trowel & Hammer Inn, Cotton, pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting and resisting a police constable and using threatening words or behaviour at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on August 9.

Prosecuting, Rosalind Cappleman told the court that at about 10.05pm on July 25, outside the Trowel and Hammer pub, Mcqueen assaulted a police officer by elbowing him in the nose before swearing at him.

McQueen will return to court on November 7 for trial.
