Lakenheath man guilty of sex assault on schoolgirl
A LAKENHEATH man has been convicted of indecently assaulting a schoolgirl.
Jonathan Trett, 45, had denied two offences but was found guilty by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court on June 29.
During a four day trial Trett had been accused of sexually assaulting the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, while she was visiting his house at Highfield, Lakenheath on June 12 last year.
Giving evidence via a video link the girl alleged that first incident had taken place in a bedroom where Trett, who claimed to be suffering from a headache, had asked her to give him a cuddle while he was wearing only a pair of shorts.
The girl, who earlier had been with friends watching a stock car meeting at Mildenhall Stadium, said Trett had gone on to touch her from behind around her breast area.
A short time later Trett had placed his hands on her bottom as she stood in the kitchen and kissed her on the lips, the girl alleged.
She said: “He said I was a such a good girl. I was a treasure.”
Trett told the jury that none of the incidents ever happened but he could not offer an explanation as to why the girl would make up her evidence.
He denied having engineered a situation to ensure that the girl visited his house to allow the alleged offences to take place.
After the jury of seven men and five women had returned majority guilty verdicts on two counts of sexually assaulting a girl aged under 13, Trett was ordered by Judge John Holt to sign the sexual offences register.
Trett will be sentenced in the week commencing July 23.
Judge Holt also ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report by the Probation Service.
